TeamViewer
TeamViewer
TeamViewer allows for the remote access and control of another person's computer. The primary uses of TeamViewer are internal tech support and remote assistance. The ability to control another person's computer has some distinct advantages over screen sharing. Being able to show someone how to accomplish a task is much faster than guiding them through the task. The two main disadvantages of TeamViewer are that users must be careful when taking control of other people's computers and the potential risk of a security breach. While TeamViewer does require a session ID and password generated by the user whos computer is going to be controlled it can still be somewhat unnerving to people to have their computers controlled by someone who is not there. To deal with this users controlling other's computers must be clear about what they are doing and why when using other people's computers. Due to TeamViewer granting access to a computer a potential security breach in which a hacker gains access to a computer on the system via TeamViewer can cause a good deal of damage.
Connecting with TeamViewer: On the home screen of TeamViewer there are two main sections, Allow Remote Control and Control Remote Computer. The two sections mirror each other. The person who wishes to grant access to their computer provides their ID and Password shown on this screen to the person they wish to have control their computer. The person who will be controlling the other person's screen will enter the ID into the box on the right then click connect. Enter the password when prompted. Once connected the host will not see anything different. The other party will be able to see both the screen of the computer they are remote controlling and will be able to minimize TeamViewer to see their own computer screen.
