GroupMe
GroupMe is a group messaging app that connects with your existing cell phone number. It is really simple to setup and create groups. All that's needed is a group name and people cell phone numbers that you add to the group. Once everyone's in the group, you can start chatting. It is really simple, so it doesn't contain a lot of features, but it does allow you to like messages, reply to others, share files, and chat in general.
It's simple!
GroupMe is as simple as just entering a name for your group and entering in everyone's phone numbers. Once everyone's in, the chatting can commence.
The only downside of having such a simple platform is that there is no built in moderation features. If someone needs to be removed from the group, their messages will stay and that is sometimes undesirable depending on what that person has said.
Another downside of GroupMe is that it is "single-threaded" communication. There are no side channels like Slack or Discord. This means that conversation must be presented in a linear format and topics are easily lost. This can be a problem for fast-moving group chats when there are hundreds of messages per day.
You might be asking yourself, "How is this different than texting?"
GroupMe can be accessed on all devices so this bridges the gap between iPhones, Android, and even computers. Every device can use GroupMe
So how do I actually create a group?
Step 1: Download the GroupMe app.
Step 2: Click the create group button
Step 3: Give your group a name
Step 4: Add phone numbers
Creating a poll
Polls are a nice way to gauge interest or make a decision with the people in your group. This is how you can create a poll:
Step 1: Select the group icon in the top right
Step 2: Select Polls from the menu
Step 3: Select the plus icon in the top right
Step 4: Fill out the poll title/question and the options. You can also set an end date for the poll here
Step 5: Select the arrow in the top right to create the poll
The poll will then show up in chat and people can vote
I hope this information will help you make an informed decision on whether to use GroupMe as your next groups collaboration tool.
